If you purchased a new PC with Windows 10 Home preinstalled, be prepared. This down-market release doesn’t have the features required to do the actual work: remote desktop server access, BitLocker disk encryption, Group Policy support, and control over when updates are installed, for beginners only.
You can pay $99 to upgrade, but consider a cheaper option before you reach your wallet. Do you have old product keys from Windows 7 Pro, Windows 7 Ultimate, or Windows 8/8.1 Pro? In fact, you can use any of these old versions of the product key to perform a clean installation or upgrade to Pro.
In fact, you only need to use the older product key once. After you upgrade from Windows 10 Home, the Windows 10 Pro digital license is attached to the specific hardware that you just upgraded, allowing you to reinstall that version of Windows on that hardware at any time without using a product key.

This can also happen if you take advantage of a free Windows 10 upgrade product on a PC running Master Windows 7 or Windows 8.1. The upgrade takes only a few minutes.
Start with the “Settings” and “Update” and “Safety” and “Activation” and you should see the screen as follows: If you don’t have a Pro product key and want to purchase, you can click “Go to the Store” and purchase a $100 upgrade. Easy.
However, if you have a product key for Windows 10 Pro, Windows 7 Pro or Ultimate, or Windows 8/8.1 Pro, you can click the Change Product Key button and enter the 25-character key here. This upgrade is performed with an older version of the product key, which typically requires two steps. Fortunately, in a recent feature update, you do not need to perform this two-step process.
After entering the product key, follow the prompts to perform the upgrade. You’ll see a series of progress screens and your system will restart. When the upgrade is complete, you should see a “success” notification. Check the activation screen again to confirm that you are now running Windows 10 Pro.
